Title: Chief of Staff 

Reports to: CEO

Location: Washington, DC is preferred; remote will be considered for the right candidate

About I AM ALS 

I AM ALS is a patient-centric movement revolutionizing how to end disease. The nonprofit provides critical support and resources to people with ALS, caregivers, and loved ones. We empower advocates to raise awareness and lead the movement against ALS in driving the development of cures. Founded in 2019 by husband and wife team Brian Wallach and Sandra Abrevaya, I AM ALS was born out of their desire to rewrite the ALS story for Brian and the tens of thousands of other people with ALS. 

Reporting to the CEO, the Chief of Staff will partner closely with the leadership team to operationalize the organization’s success and strategic growth. The Chief of Staff is a senior role and will help create a culture of efficient and quality work across departments, including activities related to operations, fundraising, and project management across departments.

Responsibilities:

Operations – 

  • Make recommendations for and implement internal systems with an eye toward future needs and budget realities.
  • Oversee internal financial forecasting, budgets, and more.
  • Oversee basic human resources, including onboarding and performance management.

Fundraising – 

  • Support the CEO in maintaining a strong organizational narrative around success, impact, and direction.
  • Research foundation and corporate grant opportunities.
  • Write proposals, applications, and grant reports.
  • Implement and test fundraising ideas, including paid ads, direct mail, and more
  • Partner with the CEO with ongoing development of the organization’s revenue strategy, goals, and tactical plans.

Project Management – 

  • Build and maintain a project management system for the organization.
  • Organize meetings, conferences, and other special events.
  • Serve as cross-departmental thought leadership to support the growth of the organization.
  • Share in knowledge dissemination, impact reporting, and lessons learned across teams.

Qualifications

  • At least five years in senior nonprofit management positions.
  • Track record delivering superior results in leadership roles.
  • Success in execution of multiple tasks while responding to multiple priorities.
  • Proven leadership approach with a focus on efficiency, organizational systems, flexibility, empathy, and feedback.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with a wide array of stakeholders, including and importantly, people living with and affected by ALS.
  • Comfortable with technology and digital tools including project management programs, CRMs, and more.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, including excellent writing.
  • Passion for disease/health advocacy and/or personal ALS experience is always a plus.

Travel Requirements

  • Travel to meetings and events expected, up to 10%.

Salary and Benefits

  • Position is full time/exempt with competitive salary and benefits package including excellent health insurance, flexible PTO policy, and more.
  • Salary range for this role is $75,000-$115,000 depending on the candidate’s level of experience.
