I am Whitford Wooten

a family member of someone we've lost to ALS,
living with ALS

North Carolina

7 years after my father, I was diagnosed with ALS at 31.

In August of 2016 my dad was diagnosed with bulbar ALS. He lived 11 months. I quit my job and moved home to help my mom be one of his caretakers. He was 51 when he passed away.

After a biking accident in 2021, I had a peroneal nerve decompression. I thought all my problems had been resolved and cleared up, until February 2023. My surgery had not been a success, it had failed. I was sent to the same neurologist who was the conforming diagnosis for my father. October 2023, 7 years after my father, I was diagnosed with ALS at 31.
