I am Rebecca Grimsley

a family member of someone we've lost to ALS

Massachusetts

ALS took his abilities, but it couldn’t extinguish his gratitude for the little things like seeing birds out the window as well as visits from family & friends.

Jim was an energetic carpenter. He was a playful grandfather who loved to throw kids around and build fires so they could roast marshmallows. Then he started dropping things. Then his speech became slurred. He knew it was getting serious when he couldn’t hold a nail to hammer it, forcing him to abandon his project of building a shed. Diagnosed in December 2017, he died in May 2020. He was a quadriplegic on a ventilator.

ALS took his abilities, but it couldn’t extinguish his gratitude for the little things like seeing birds out the window as well as visits from family & friends.
