I am Penny Johnson

living with ALS

South Carolina

As my symptoms continued to progress and I began to fall I saw a different neurologist that brought up the possibility of ALS.

I was diagnosed with ALS in December 2021. I was experiencing some issues since April 2021. But I had to put my dog, Buddy, to sleep after 17 years of unconditional love in March and just assumed my weakness was due to the mental strain of that.

When things continued to progress – weakness on my left side and speech issues- I went to a neurologist in August and was told I was B12 deficient and immediately began B12 supplements. As my symptoms continued to progress and I began to fall I saw a different neurologist that brought up the possibility of ALS in November and turned me over to the ALS Clinic at University of Miami in December.
