I am a retired Chief Master Sergeant of the United States Air Force. Serving 27 years, 21 years as an aircrew member on a cargo aircraft, logging almost 9,000 flying hours then 6 years in the accounting field as the Defense Finance and Accounting Officer for Charleston Air Force Base and the Deputy Defense Finance and Accounting Officer at Osan Air Base, Korea.
I was diagnosed with ALS by Dr. Jeffrey Rothstein at Johns Hopkins Hospital October 2016 and confirmed and accepted by the Veterans Administration in June of 2018 after receiving a formal letter of diagnoses from Johns Hopkins. I consider myself a very lucky ALS patient in that the disease is progressing very slowly. It has affected my legs, I am no longer able to walk, and right hand.
My wife Bernadette is very supportive of the disease and my fight for advocacy. She fully understands for impact it will have on their lives and is actively involved in a caregiver support group.
