I am a mother, wife, full-time employee, and caregiver to a 40 year old husband with ALS. Of all the things we pictured for our lives, ALS was not one of them, but here we are killing it!
My husband was the one who got things off the top shelves and lifted anything heavy for us, and that has all changed in the last two years. We have had to adjust and find ways for me and my daughters to keep the house running while supporting Ben in his continued efforts to be the man of our family.
It is not easy, and we fall and get back up more than we stay down and cry, but we do have those days. I am the chaos organizer, the one who wipes all the tears, gives all the hugs, drives everyone where they need to go, and makes sure we are all keeping our chins up and eyes on God. I feel that I have been placed as Ben’s wife because I am the exact woman for the job. I wouldn’t want him to be going through ALS and all of it’s challenges without me and the girls here to support him.
