The Artistry of ALS

Artist Robert Genn once said, “Art is a form of love. Art is the ultimate gift. Art heals life.”

Art is also a force that is alive and well in the ALS community. ALS can be an incredibly confining disease, both emotionally and physically, but art can transcend these confines.

Art can provide healing from the emotional scars of ALS and be a means of expression when other means are taken away.

In some instances, it even pushes the boundaries of what we thought was possible. When artists with ALS are faced with disease progression, they find new ways to make art-like painting with a bite stick, or creating art using Eyegaze.

Why am I waxing poetic about art, you might ask?

Well, it’s because members of the ALS community worked extremely hard to create a virtual art gallery called “Artistry of ALS,” which features some incredible art done by people living with ALS.

We encourage you to peruse this amazing gallery here:

(Note: if you’re having trouble viewing the gallery on your device, you can try downloading the app.)

And don’t miss exclusive interviews with the artists, found here:

Some of the artists featured in the gallery were kind enough to join our panel and speak about their art. You can watch the panel here!
