Eyegaze Panel Part One

One of the numerous and devastating challenges associated with ALS is the loss of one’s  ability to communicate. This can lead to feelings of isolation, disempowerment, and profound devastation.  It changes the world of the person living with ALS, their loved ones, and others who play a role in their life.

Luckily, technological breakthroughs provide avenues to overcome the communication limitations brought about by ALS. One such technology is Augmentative Alternative Communication (AAC), more commonly referred to as Eyegaze.

Describing Eyegaze technology may evoke imagery reminiscent of a Sci-Fi novel, but it’s not mere fiction — it’s a tangible reality, proven to be effective and life changing.

Eyegaze allows users to type using their eyes instead of their hands. The typed text can either be displayed as written words or be vocalized by a synthesized computerized voice, restoring users’ connection to the world around them.

This technology offers invaluable support to people living with ALS by facilitating clear communication of their essential needs, uplifting their mental wellness through sustained social engagement, and nurturing their creativity.

.A significant portion of our I AM ALS community utilizes Eyegaze technology, and The Write Stuff Team is eager to spotlight this software and highlight remarkable advocates who leverage it. Their achievements go beyond the everyday — they’re reaching for the extraordinary!

The Write Stuff Team is extending an invitation for you to participate in a two-part panel series focused on the uses of Eyegaze technology.

The first panel is scheduled for April 29th, running from 6:30 to 7:45 PM ET, and will delve into the fascinating applications of Eyegaze technology. Registration for this session is available on this page.

The second panel is scheduled for  May 13th from 6:30-7:45 PM ET and will dive deeper into the intricate details of Eyegaze functionality and usage. To register for this panel, please follow this link: https://www.iamals.org/action/eyegaze-panel-part-two/
