On 2/7/25, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) announced that they would limit indirect costs in their research grants.
We understand the logic of only wanting to fund direct research costs. Unfortunately, the reality of research in ALS involves significant costs to sustain trial and research activities. Labs need to be cleaned. Clinical trial nurses need to screen and enroll participants. Lights need to stay on. Grants need to be administered. And so much more. Without funding the basics, the research simply cannot happen.
And right now there are people living with ALS who are participating in clinical trial research that is made possible by NIH grants. These funding cuts put the research and its participants in jeopardy.
Your voice is important in explaining how important these research investments are to people living with ALS and their caregivers and loved ones. Join us in asking your senators and congresspeople to ask the NIH to reinstate its previous and agreed upon funding levels.
