At the age of 51, I became a widow after my dear husband Chris died from the disease in 2019. I had been his main caregiver from his diagnosis in 2018 until his death. I had some help from my children which was welcomed but I also wanted to protect them as much as possible. We had no outside help.
It was a privilege and honor to take care of my husband through his illness and death.
Since that time, I attended a wonderful bereavement group facilitated by widows and widowers, trained with the same group and currently facilitate for new widows. I am also a trained end of life doula and recently started a Master of Social Work program with my goal of become a loss/grief therapist as well as working in end of life care.
