The Harmonizing Environmental Analyses and Launching Therapeutic Hubs to Yield Bolstered Research And Innovation in Neurological Science Act or the HEALTHY BRAINS Act (HBA) will create the first-ever program through the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to research the relationship between environmental risk factors and all neurodegenerative diseases, including ALS.

Currently, we have a limited understanding on how exposure to chemicals, toxins, and other environmental agents in our world can trigger or cause neurodegenerative diseases. We need to understand the root causes of these diseases so we can stop them before they start.. The HBA will expand the amount and scope of this research scope to help us understand  all neurodegenerative diseases and the relationships between them. This could enhance our understanding of these diseases and unlock connections between them, leading to greater possibilities for treatments, cures, or prevention. The bill sets aside $50,000,000 annually, starting in 2026 and going through 2030.
